As Above, So Below

Spells & Rituals

As above, so below.

This is one of the most famous quotes from The Emerald Tablets of Toth. This is a misquote. “As above; so below” is only written twice in the text. The actual quotes are as follows; “Three are the qualities of each of the natures; nine in all, as above, so below.” And “Deep into Earth's heart I followed the pathway, learning the secrets, below as above; learning the pathway to the Halls of Amenti; learning the Law that balances the world.” The impact of this misquote is insignificant for the purpose of this article, the reason I am drawing attention to the misquote is to draw attention to its source.

The Emerald tablets of Toth, also known as The Emerald Tablets of Hermes, was written by Hermes Trismegistus in the late eighth or early ninth century. This text is roughly 108 standard pages long and can be listened to in audio book form in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. I have included a PDF copy of the text along with a YouTube video version of the audio book. The Emerald tablets is a relatively short read for the impact that it has had on the occult world.

Hermes and Toth are believed to be on in the same. The Greeks also believed that other gods in the Egyptian pantheon are the same gods of the Greeks with different names. This belief would explain the alternative nomenclature for the tome.
